V8 ADVANCED PROMPT / INSTALL

Your terminal.
With more clarity.

Install once. Turn a rough request into a short brief grounded in your repository, exactly where you already work.

Version 0.5.0 · Node.js 20+ · Claude Code & Codex

Install the package.

Use Node.js 20 or newer. Install the official release directly from v8labs.app:

npm install -g https://v8labs.app/downloads/v8-advanced-prompt-0.5.0.tgz

After the npm registry release, this shorter command will also work:

npm install -g v8-advanced-prompt

Verify the download.

Every release ships with its SHA-256 checksum. To check it, download v8-advanced-prompt-0.5.0.tgz, run the command for your system in the folder you saved it to, and compare the output with the published hash. Then install from the verified file with npm install -g ./v8-advanced-prompt-0.5.0.tgz.

v8-prompt status

See exactly what leaves your machine.

Run this inside a repository to print the context pack that would be sent with a prompt typed there: repository name, branch, whether the tree is dirty, stack, test/build/lint commands, instruction file names, matching file paths with their test files and the rule files that apply to them, the commands your CI runs (redacted), recent commit subjects and answers you confirmed earlier. Names and commands only, never file contents: contents are searched on your device to rank paths, and only the paths are sent (the exceptions: up to four command lines quoted from CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md when your manifests list none, and up to four redacted CI commands), capped at 4 KB. Add a request to see which file paths it would match.

To send the prompt alone from now on, turn it off (v8-prompt context on resumes), or set V8_PROMPT_NO_CONTEXT=1 in your environment. v8-prompt forget clears the answers remembered for the current repository.

Add /v8 to Claude Code.

The package ships a Claude Code plugin with one command, /v8:prompt <request>, which runs v8 on your request and hands Claude the advanced prompt as the task. It needs the CLI from step 01. Try it for one session:

claude --plugin-dir "$(npm root -g)/v8-advanced-prompt/plugin"

Or install it permanently:

claude plugin marketplace add "$(npm root -g)/v8-advanced-prompt/plugin"
claude plugin install v8@opensources

Inside /v8:prompt no questions are asked; open unknowns are written into the prompt as “before you start” questions for Claude to settle.

Use it from scripts.

v8-prompt improve reads a prompt from stdin or --text and writes the advanced prompt to stdout. Options: --agent codex, --no-questions, --no-context, --json. It counts against the same quota as the shortcut.
